Finding balance….what does it really mean? If you follow my life you know that the last month and a half has been an absolute world wind! I found a new shop, came down with the most wicked stomach virus on the day I was to sign the lease and ended up having to cancel a ton of appointments and events! With much help we got the new shop completely transformed and ready for the Grand Re-Opening in like 2 weeks, disassembled and re-painted the old shop….all while still keeping my regular insane work schedule! Oh yeah and my son was here visiting for Easter week….whew! In the meantime our POS system wasn’t working making my booking system a nightmare! Oh what fun that was. Then as I was at dinner celebrating our wonderful Grand Re-Opening I got a call from my daughter telling me that my dad was in the hospital! I literally cried the entire way home! I don’t understand why you can never just get through one thing in life without there always being something negative that happens!
Needless to say I have been doing a lot of contemplating about life and finding balance. How do you celebrate the wonderful things in your life while traumas are going on? It is funny cause you hear people talking about “balance” all the time. Most of the time when they talk about finding balance they are referring to carving out equal time for family, friends, work, fun time, etc. But what if it is actually about something so much bigger than that?
I have said time and time again that NO ONE gets through this life without experiencing trauma, drama and negativity! NO ONE! The truth be told life is all about the ying and the yang, the good and the bad, the happy and the sad. It is about learning how to maneuver your way through all the twists and turns, being strong enough to hold on when falling into those ditches and giving yourself permission to be happy no matter what!
I laugh when people constantly tell me how lucky I am and how if they had my life they would be happy all the time too! NEWSFLASH…I have just as much trauma, drama and negativity as the next person. Ya know what the difference is…I don’t make it my main focus! Instead I make a conscious choice to focus on the positive that is going on! I ask myself each and everyday “what can I change and what can’t I”? I let go of what I have no control over and I put all my focus on the things I can change! Yes, like everyone else I go through all the expected emotions while the traumas are unfolding. However, I keep going! I don’t allow myself to get stuck in them.
The last few weeks I have learned the true meaning of finding balance! It isn’t about making equal time for things it is about accepting the balance between the good and bad things that happen in life. It is about processing the emotions when going through the bad and allowing yourself to celebrate the good. AND when the good and the bad are happening in the very same moment….it about knowing that it is perfectly okay to be both happy and sad at the very same time!
